The park was originally a garden surrounding the mansion of feudal lord Zenjiro Yesuda. In 1976, the garden was restored to its original looks of the Edo era and opened to the public.

Kinshi Park in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, was opened in 1928, and the Tokyo Sky Tree can be seen from the park. The park was developed as part of the reconstruction project after the Great Kanto Earthquake.
